Curriculum Committee
Who we are
The Curriculum Committee works on developing curricula and instructional materials in the English Language Skills Department, in alignment with academic standards and the latest educational trends. The committee focuses on setting course learning objectives, reviewing and recommending textbooks, preparing course descriptions and reports, monitoring the achievement of learning objectives, addressing course equivalency requests, and analyzing students' needs to ensure that the academic goals of the Common First Year are achieved.
Objectives
- Review and select the textbooks (EAP & ESP), instructional materials, and educational technology to ensure alignment with KSU and the CFY/ELSD standards.
- Conduct needs assessments and research on emerging curriculum trends, educational technology, and revised processes to make informed recommendations and support the implementation of effective teaching and learning strategies.
- Collaborate with teaching faculty to align learning outcomes with curriculum objectives, provide training, workshops, and inductions, and ensure the successful implementation of instructional materials and academic support resources.
- Use data and management information to monitor students' exam readiness, track progress toward learning outcomes, and ensure continuous improvement of curriculum.
Key responsibilities
- Setting general and specific educational objectives for all departmental courses and obtaining approval from the department council.
- Reviewing textbooks and providing the necessary recommendations to the department council.
- Preparing course descriptions and course reports.
- Monitoring the achievement of educational objectives and the use of the latest teaching methods through field and virtual classroom visits.
- Reviewing course equivalency requests for English courses referred by the Student Affairs Committee and submitting recommendations.
- Analyzing students' interests and language needs to ensure the academic objectives of the Common First Year Deanship are met.
