Our department, as the name tells, is the cornerstone of all other sciences, be they applied or humanities. The department offers you a group of basic mathematical and statistical sciences commensurate with the track you are enrolled in, and provides you with the necessary scientific skills required for pursuing your university studies. These courses are presented by a highly qualified university staff who employs the state-of-art educational methods and highly equipped classrooms so that the students experience a good and distinguished learning environment. You will also notice that the optimal use of technological media as an enrichment source for your education will contribute to your self-learning and interactive skills through solving exercises and doing homework. This rich learning environment will in turn represent an investment in your various tests throughout the semester. Thus, this guarantees that the mission of the department has been fulfilled; specifically, your obtainment of the required knowledge to pursue your university studies.
The department offers the following courses:
- Differential Calculus (Math101) is taught to students of the Science and the Engineering track only.
- Introduction to Probability and Statistics (Stat101) is taught to students of the Science and the Engineering track only.
- Principles of Statistics and Probability (Stat102) is taught to students of the Humanities track only.
It is worth noting that the learning resources are available for students in the department branches in both male and female campuses and can be used at any time throughout the daily working hours of the students. There are also faculty members present in dedicated rooms (such as the learning resources rooms) to explain and clarify what is difficult for the student to understand from the contents of the above-mentioned courses. They also provide additional information for those students who wish to increase their knowledge of what they have studied in the classroom.
In conclusion, as a chair of the Basic Sciences Department, I am more than happy to receive your constructive observations and suggestions that contribute to the development of the educational process in our regular meetings or via the following email:
